MyProtein – Protein Granola Review

Hi guys, hope everyones had a great week! Anyone who’s managed to get down to Body Power this weekend – you lucky lucky things!! definitely planning to get down there for at least one day next year!

A little later than planned, but you all voted and this weeks winner was MyProteins – Protein Granola! Unfortunately I’ve not been well and I’m still full of cold so I’ve decided to film the product review blog next week! So keep an eye on my YouTube for that to appear next week.

So wait, there’s such a thing as protein granola?

Yes, yes there is! So if any of you follow me on Instagram you will know I won a competition held by a fab fitty Kim French. One of the prizes was a MyProtein voucher, I did a haul video on my youtube about which products I had decided to purchase. If you want to see what products I will be reviewing over the month go give it a watch here. Now I’ve seen Kim have this protein granola on her Instastory so I was intrigued to see what it was like. I struggle to sit down and have a full balanced breakfast first thing, mainly because I’m always on the go first thing and the chaos doesn’t normally calm down until about 1pm! So I figured this would be a good back up option to get some protein in my breakfast!

I decided to try the Chocolate Caramel Flavour, mainly because of my sweet tooth! I’ve included the full ingredients above – so it is a little allergy minefield! The Granola includes Oats, Soy, Milk, Wheat and nuts! So that rules out anyone sensitive to soy, dairy, nuts or gluten I’m afraid!

The nutritional breakdown is for a 30g portion with skimmed milk, I personally use whole milk or almond milk so just take into account what milk you are using as that will alter the breakdown!

Now I’m going to compare this with another brand of Granola which is advertised as a ‘Protein Granola’.

The alternative brand hasn’t included the milk, and they also have a larger serving size so that needs to be taken into consideration when comparing the two. Initially it’s easy to see the MP Granola is lower in calories and fat/saturated fat. The alternative brand is lower in sugar for a larger serving, but once you’ve added your milk in they will be pretty on par. The big difference is that protein content, the alternative brand has 7.8g for a 50g serving where as MP has 15g for 30g! So if you’re looking for a high protein breakfast go to then the MP definitely has a better macro breakdown.

So the macros look pretty boss – but does it taste like cardboard?

I always like to be completely honest with these reviews, because it’s rare you find an unbiased review of products these days. everyone’s trying to push supplements and brands so they all say how amazing it is, I’m here to give you the low down and let you know if that product is worth the dosh!

MP Granola – yes, it’s worth the dosh! It’s sweet without being sickly, and has a subtle chocolate taste so it’s not too overpowering if you are wanting to have it for breakfast or before a workout. The only thing I’ve found is you need to have a drink with it, it does have a slightly dry texture. So after a few mouthfuls your mouth does feel a little claggy, anyone who’s tried this – am I the only one that finds this? In a way it makes me drink more water so it’s actually a winner for me. I’m not a huge fan of milk so I don’t drink the cereal milk – so maybe that’s why I find it claggy. Other than that I’ve really enjoyed having this in the cupboard as a quick ‘go to’ protein breakfast. It’s made getting an extra 15g of protein into my daily macros really easy. I’m yet to try it with yoghurt and fruit but I can imagine that would be a nice sweet treat for anyone who is in a deficit stage and is limiting sugar/sweets.

It’s a winner from me, and it’s also not overly priced which is amazing. It’s a pretty big tub so I reckon it would easily last you a month even if you had a portion everyday!
